A sensitive and personal style, between fingerstyle, classical guitar, folk and world influences.

Michel Dalle Ave

Michel Dalle Ave is a French guitarist and composer, born in Agen in 1958. His musical journey began in 1973, at the age of 15, when he discovered the guitar as a self-taught musician, fascinated by the expressive freedom of folk music.

He quickly developed a personal style shaped by many influences: jazz, blues, classical and contemporary music, as well as South American and Celtic traditions, all contributing to a sensitive style that is both accessible and sophisticated.

Based in south-west France, he has built a distinctive career combining performance, composition and recording. Since the 2000s, he has performed in concerts as a solo artist and in various formations — guitar-and-drums duos, singer accompaniment and guitar ensembles. He is regularly invited to international festivals and workshops, and his works are now part of the repertoire of many performers.

His music, characterised by clear melodic lines and particular attention to harmony and natural rhythm, has been published since 2009 by Les Productions d’Oz in Quebec. This editorial partnership has led to a catalogue of more than 80 original guitar compositions, including works published in his various collections — a body of work recognised for its stylistic diversity and musicality, and now performed in many countries.

Several of his works have also been selected for international guitar competitions, including “À Nîmes ta guitare” and “Drôme de Guitares”, reflecting the growing presence of his repertoire among young guitarists and performers.

In 2025, the American magazine Fingerstyle Journal, published in Nashville and edited by guitarist Bill Piburn, devoted a multi-page interview to him, highlighting his career, musical world and work as a composer. More recently, in 2026, Guitare Classique Magazine, a French magazine dedicated to the guitar, also featured his work by publishing two of his pieces.

A published and performed body of work

In 2024, this body of work was highlighted by the publication of Anthologie Volume 1, bringing together the main features of his writing. His albums provide a sonic showcase for this published repertoire: Chez moi (2022), Mariesland (2024), Mes Ballades (2025) and Lakes Road (2026), produced by Doberman Musique and distributed by Believe.

These recordings reflect his intimate musical world, combining lyrical ballads, poetic miniatures, fingerstyle pieces and more narrative forms. Many professional artists now perform his works, including Édith Pageaud, Éric Franceries, David Jacques, Alexandre Bernoud, François Sciortino, Christian Laborde (Martin Guitar), Blaise Laflamme, Guy-Jean Maggio, Laura Rouy, Alfonso Montes and many others.

What they say about his music

“I discovered Michel Dalle Ave and his guitar several years ago. Since then, he has never ceased to surprise me with the quality of his compositions and the variety of styles that make up his repertoire. His inventiveness allows him to evoke ethereal atmospheres, drawing their colours from his rich, deeply human musical world… A multifaceted guitar. A true remedy for the blues.”

Jean-Marie Raymond — Guitarist, conductor, composer

“These albums touch us first through their sincerity, their highly personal tone, their appealing harmonies and their diversity of moods, which nevertheless never detracts from the unity and coherence of the whole. We are charmed by his tender confidences, sometimes enhanced by subtle touches of humour, by his clear poetry and his serenity.”

Bernard Piris — Composer & guitarist

“Michel Dalle Ave is one of those guitarists with an appetite for music that I love. With a solid classical guitar foundation, he moves between Jazz, Fingerstyle and, above all, an increasingly distinctive originality in his compositions. Ideas rain down, but the weather is always fine… Great!”

Jean-Félix Lalanne — French guitarist and singer-songwriter

“Michel's music has accompanied me for many years. When I discovered it through his piece ‘Bouca Dance’, I immediately understood that this musician had no interest in boundaries or styles. Moving effortlessly between classical guitar and fingerstyle, he also brings in touches of Celtic music, a hint of Latin music or a touch of jazz! Delicate writing and an obvious sense of melody — music you urgently need to discover.”

François Sciortino — French fingerstyle guitarist and composer
